Arkessa provides connections to a leading energy efficiency partner who uses them to deliver major energy savings to high street retailers
Matrix is the UK’s leading energy management company, providing cutting-edge, remote energy management to help clients reduce their energy usage. Many of Matrix’s clients are major high street retailers, each with hundreds of commercial properties to manage efficiently. The potential for cost savings is vast.
The Matrix system uses sophisticated technology and software enabling clients to remotely monitor and manage the energy used in each retail location. Optimising energy performance can save businesses millions in revenue each year. Efficient energy usage not only makes business sense, but also fulfils a company’s commitment to reduce its environmental impact and help protect global energy reserves.
At the core of the Matrix solution is its Energy Management Centre. The centre supports a suite of powerful applications to help its clients manage, track and report on energy savings in each of their commercial properties.
To provide this demanding level of service, Matrix needs reliable, robust and secure remote data connections. To provide these connections Matrix chose Arkessa.
Arkessa provides wide area, wireless internet connections that enable organisations to manage, capture, control and monitor equipment and processes remotely.
Working with Arkessa, Matrix created a customised energy management service for a major high street supermarket chain. The system uses optimised communications across multiple mobile networks and is used first, to handle data from sensors and, second, to enable the energy management and control of individual premises.
Arkessa supplies over 700 wireless connections, enabling Matrix’s energy management centre to communicate wirelessly with each of the retailer’s 700 store locations.
Using this connectivity, the energy management centre receives data from in-store sensors that monitor temperature, humidity and even the number of people entering each retail unit. The centre then uses further secure fixed IP connections from Arkessa, to remotely manage and adjust the heating, lighting, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment, in response to the received data.
Having agreements with all major European mobile network operators means Arkessa can ensure good coverage at all the different locations and monitoring points on each site.
“What’s critical to our business is that we have reliable and real-time access to our client’s remote locations. The Arkessa platform provides precisely this consistently,” said Mike Ramsden, Matrix’s Technology Director.
“Our clients are major retailers with hundreds of premises that require continual energy management. We can’t afford any connection downtime and neither can our clients, which is why we’ve chosen Arkessa to provide the remote connection solution, as they reliably provide a robust, problem-free service – which is essential for our business.”
Looking to the future, Mike continued, “The energy market is constantly changing and Arkessa is always happy to talk about new innovations and ideas to help us continue to provide a cutting-edge service to our clients. Arkessa provide the backbone to our service.”
